Are We Safe? A Psychologist’s Perspective on the Anxiety and Fear Facing Black Communities while Living Under Trump.
Okuninibaa (Dr.) Mawiyah Kambon has been a clinical psychologist for more than 40 yrs. She shares the title of Spiritualist/Diviner/Healer as she is also an Ɔkomfoo of the Akan tradition for more than 20 yrs. She comes with wisdom that includes the knowledge and skills that have come from these experiences.
Description of the webinar:
Every day, we face the denial of our truth, the erasure of our experiences, and the manipulation of our reality. For so many Black people, the assaults are constant on our spirit affecting our minds, bodies, culture and daily life. The weight of it all can feel overwhelming and contribute to anxiety. Amongst Black people anxiety is real and has intensified since the Trump election and with the inauguration within days.
Threats have become real experiences with an uptick in lynchings, shootings and other verbal, emotional and physical attacks.  Statements, responses and actions, especially from those in power, leave us questioning or maybe clear and fearful.
What’s next? Will it get worse? Where do we go from here? What options are available? In this webinar, we’ll confront the impact of racial gaslighting head-on and grapple with the reality of a “trump” world. Together, we’ll navigate the anxiety and confusion so many of us feel. Is it time to move? Should you leave the U.S. for Abibiman (Africa) or the Caribbean? Should you stay in your job or carve a new path? These are not just questions—they are deeply personal decisions rooted in survival, hope and determination for you and the collective. We must confront and honor our truth, release the fear, heal from the harm, and take the next step forward. Let’s explore the possibilities—together.
