Description
This style of mask originated in the Kôngo river basin and can be found among Basongye and Baluba people. The Luba Kifwebe round type of mask was traditionally used for initiation ceremonies, for spiritual purification and in maintaining order. This set represents male and female complementarity and features intricately inlaid brass, copper and cowrie shell work. Carvings of indigenous animals found in the natural environment surround the pronounced features and downward facing birds on the foreheads of each. Shipping TBD based on location.
